Mon Bijou

Posted by on June 1, 2014
Just as Lake Geneva Wisconsin is a smaller version of Newport RI, Oconomowoc WI is a smaller version of Lake Geneva. From the 1870s to the 1930s it drew the wealthy from Milwaukee, Chicago, and St Louis, who built palacial estates, many of which are still standing. The most prominant is Mon Bijou (My Jewel) built in 1879. It is now The Inn at Pine Terrace and is seen here shortly after construction. MonBijou1879MonBijou2

It is even more luxurious and beautiful than you can imagine inside! The Innkeepers are wonderful! if in the area of Milwaukee or Madison and needing a place to stay this is a peaceful yet stunningly gorgeous place to stay. So richly filled with the history of yesterday that you will want to roam the halls and take in the fine detail to the wood and Victorian designs in each room. The sunroom is delightful! A true blast from the past and so tastefully decorated.

Thanks for commenting. The hilltop location certainly adds to the splendor you described.
