Tombstone Bird Cage

Posted by on December 26, 2012

Theater, saloon, gambling hall and brothel, the Bird Cage opened on Christmas Day 1881 and was open 24/7 until it finally closed in 1889. Crib compartments hanging from the ceiling gave it its name and inspired the most popular song of the day–She’s Only a Bird in a Gilded Cage. 140 bullet holes can still be seen in the walls and ceiling.
