Ft Bowie was built in southeast Arizona in 1868 following the Battle of Apache Pass. It is shown here in an 1894 photo–the year it was abandoned.

The elaborate CO’s quarters are seen here in an 1885 photo.

Far more primitive than the CO’s quarters, the officers quarters are seen here in an 1885 photo.

Fort Bowie’s most famous resident was Geronimo seen here in two pictures taken in 1886. He left the next day for Florida never to return to his homeland.

Geronimo is third from the right.

The top photo shows Apache Pass just behind Ft Bowie in 1868 while the other photo taken from the same spot shows the best way to experience the fort and surrounding area–from the back of a horse.
