The 125 ft. Astoria Column was completed in 1926 at a cost of $27,000. Due to exposure to the elements, the many murals depicting Oregon’s history required major restoration in 1995 at a cost of $1,000,000.
Cannon Beach
The first two pictures are of Cannon Beach with cars in the 1910s and cars and horses in the 1940s. In 1913 Cannon Beach was decreed to be part of the Oregon State Highway System. It is the site where a cannon from an 1846 shipwreck washed ashore. Also, it is the westward terminus of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Tombstone Fire House
This 1937 photo shows the abandoned fire house. Today it is used as a senior center.

Tombstone’s Crystal Palace
Built in 1882 the Crystal Palace was the most opulent bar in town with local power brokers residing on the second floor. It was closed by Prohibition but the building later served as a bus station, warehouse then movie theater with the second floor removed. Restored to its former grandeur in 1963 using many old photos.

Tombstone Court House
Built in 1882 the photo shows the court house in 1931 two years after the capital was moved to Bisbee. Today it is a museum–Arizona’s smallest state park.
