H.H. Bennett Studio
This is a picture from 1875 when the studio first opened. Notice the skylight along the roof line.It was fixed to a small building mounted on rollers on a track outside the studio to get maximum light during the day since electricity was not available .All of the apparatus is on display at the Smithsonian.

Bodie Island Lighthouse
Bodie Island Lighthouse was completed in 1872 and is seen here in 1893. It has recently received sufficient funding to make structural repairs and clean the original first-order Fresnel lens. Beginning in April 2013, you can once again climb the 214 steps to the top for unparalleled views of the Outer Banks.
